Job summary

Our Client in New York City seeks an experienced Lead Software Engineer to own technical direction and mentor a small team of engineers, collaborating with computational biologists to translate science into robust software tools.

The role targets architecture leadership, full-stack development, scalable genomics pipelines, ML integration, and best-practice governance across CI/CD, testing, and documentation.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including team leadership and hands-on involvement in planning, design, and development
• Proficiency in full stack development
• Extensive Python experience, including data pipelines and software libraries
• Demonstrated experience across the full SDLC: testing, CI/CD, version control, deployment
• Experience building and maintaining web-based applications
• Background in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field
• Experience working with large, heterogeneous biological datasets, ideally in genomics or biomedical contexts
• Strong cross‑functional communication skills and ability to work across technical and scientific disciplines

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for the platform, guiding architecture, feature development, and major infrastructure upgrades
• Lead and mentor a team of full stack software engineers across code quality, workflows, and professional development
• Design, develop, and optimize scalable genomics data processing pipelines
• Integrate machine learning methods into production pipelines for heterogeneous biological datasets
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices: coding standards, version control, documentation, testing, and CI/CD
• Collaborate cross-functionally with computational biologists, data scientists, and external partners
• Evaluate emerging technologies in cloud infrastructure, bioinformatics, and scientific computing
