Job summary

Quest Diagnostics seeks a senior data engineering leader to design, develop, and deploy scalable data integration solutions in the Google Cloud Platform. You will guide a team of engineers to build master data pipelines for Patient, Client, Test, Facility, and more, ensuring data quality, governance, and availability for analytics and AI/ML models.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred in a related discipline.
• 7+ years of data development/engineering experience.
• 2+ years of technical leadership managing data teams.
• 3+ years with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem.
• 3+ years with cloud-based data warehouses (BigQuery preferred).
• 3+ years with cloud ETL/ELT data integration tools.
• Experience with Master Data Management concepts and data quality.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on leadership in master data engineering within GCP.
• Lead a team of data engineers; mentor and coach staff.
• Collaborate with Director to translate roadmap into scalable solutions.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines from transactional systems to GCP analytics.

Job description

In this role, reporting to the Director, Master Data Products, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying highly scalable, high-performance data integration and transformation solutions for Quest’s core Master Data Products (Patient, Client, Test, Facility, Eligibility, Preferences, Exclusions) within the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem. You will lead a team of data engineers to design large-scale master data processing solutions and pipelines optimized for scaling. This includes developing automated processes for acquiring, integrating, transforming, standardizing, and verifying master and reference data from transactional systems to ensure these key data assets are accurate, reliable, and readily consumable for enterprise reporting, AI/ML models, and advanced analytics.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on Leadership: Act as a hands-on technology leader who can (and will) get your hands dirty in the master data engineering and development activities within the GCP environment.
• Team Management: Lead a team of data engineers and provide coaching and mentorship to build a positive and collaborative culture, fostering the professional growth of your staff.
• Strategic Alignment: Collaborate with the Director, Master Data Products to understand the roadmap and translate business needs into scalable data engineering solutions.
• Pipeline Development: Develop and maintain data pipelines to ensure seamless and accurate data flow from transactional systems (e.g., EPIC) to the GCP analytical environment.
• Data Governance & Quality: Ensure compliance with data governance, security policies, and data quality frameworks by building robust validation and standardization checks into master data pipelines.
• Technical Standards: Consistently define and apply GCP-centric technologies, standards, and data engineering best practices.
• Delivery Management: Manage the portfolio of requirements for your team, coordinating activities with the MDM platform team, architecture, and business customers to ensure timely and quality delivery of master data assets.
• Advisory Role: Act as a trusted technical advisor to analytics and data science teams, solving complex master data challenges and ensuring data is structured to support high-performance analytics.
• Continuous Improvement: Embrace new cloud technologies (specifically within GCP), perform and support unit/integration testing,and drive improvements in people, processes, and technology.

Qualifications

Required Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or relevant degree)

Preferred Education:

• Master’s Degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or relevant degree)

Required WorkExperience:

• 7+ years of data development and engineering experience.
• 2+ years of technical leadership experience managing data engineering teams.
• 3+ years of deep, hands-on experience with the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem.
• 3+ years of experience in cloud-based data warehouses (strongly prefer Google BigQuery; Snowflake is a plus).
• 3+ years of experience with cloud-based ETL/ELT data integration tools and building scalable data pipelines.
• Experience or strong familiarity with Master Data Management (MDM) concepts, data quality, and handling complex master data domains (Patient, Client, Test, etc.).

Preferred Work Experience:

• Experience in the healthcare or life sciences industry.
• Exposure to version control systems (Git, SVN).
• Understanding of and willingness to embrace Agile Principles (Scrum).

Knowledge:

• Demonstrated knowledge of SQL and modern data programming languages (Python, Scala, Java).
• Strong understanding of master data architecture, data modeling, and data lifecycle management in a cloud environment.
