Job summary

NinjaOne is seeking a Lead Senior Software Engineer, Java, on the Catalog team, to build and scale services behind our patching engine and vendor updates across millions of endpoints.

You will design scalable systems, lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, with flexible remote options for US-based candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of experience in Java software development, particularly for product applications.
• 5+ years of experience with highly scalable systems.
• Proven experience in scaling systems and solving complex system design challenges.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP) design principles and practices.
• Expertise in API design and RESTful services, with experience using frameworks like Spring.
• Proficient in relational database design and development.
• Experience with caching systems
• Data warehouse exposure and testing/automation tooling a plus

About the Role

As a Lead Senior Software Engineer, Java on NinjaOne's Catalog team, you'll help build and scale the services behind our RMM's third-party patching engine, the systems that detect new vendor software versions, validate them safely before release, and get them into the hands of customers managing millions of endpoints. You'll design and implement scalable solutions and platform improvements, contribute to new features, and support existing functionality, all while ensuring our software meets the high expectations of our customers.

In this role, you'll be part of a team of engineers and technology experts, delivering mission-critical services that help our customers manage, protect, and maintain millions of endpoints and servers. You will have the opportunity to design and develop high-availability software systems that support our global operations.

Location - We are flexible on remote working from home, if you are located in the USA and reside in one of the following states - CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, *IL, KS, ME, MA, MD, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, OH and WA. We have physical offices in Austin, TX and Tampa, FL, if you prefer a hybrid option.

We hire the best software engineers, but experience in our stack can't hurt: NinjaOne is built on Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang and Postgres, supporting millions of user endpoints and running as a scalable cloud service in AWS. Knowing large-scale datastore bottlenecks, asynchronous application design and client-server architecture is crucial for this role.

On the Catalog team specifically, scale is an ongoing challenge as our third-party package catalog grows quickly. We're continually building new capabilities to keep support reliable, fast, and secure as that growth continues, from how we detect and validate new versions to how we get them safely onto customer endpoints. If you enjoy scaling a growing system and building the infrastructure behind new product capabilities, that's where this role spends its time.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Software Development: Lead the development of large-scale software applications, ensuring high quality and adherence to our quality-first standards.
• Software Architecture & Leadership: Influence critical architectural decisions, ensuring that systems are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives. Balance technical debt, performance concerns, and scalability with business needs.

Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to location, market demands, experience, job-related knowledge, and skills. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage and PTO. For roles based in California, Colorado, New Jersey or Washington the base salary hiring range for this position is $160,000 to $240,000 per year.

For roles based in New York, the base salary hiring range for this position is $160,000 to $240,000 per year.
