Job summary

The City of San Pablo is hiring Building Inspectors at two levels to perform inspections of new constructions, alterations and repairs, ensure compliance with building codes, and provide technical assistance to staff and the public.

At the Senior level, duties include leading inspections of complex systems, coordinating inspection activities, reviewing plans, and training lower-level inspectors.

Qualifications

• Two years of responsible inspection experience with a public agency, or four years of increasingly responsible experience in the building trades.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License.
• ICC Residential Inspector certificate and at least one specialty residential inspector certificate (mechanical, electrical, or plumbing) for Senior level.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and perform building inspections at various stages of progress for commercial and residential buildings.
• Conduct periodic field inspections to ensure compliance with structural, accessibility, electrical, mechanical, energy, fire, and green codes.
• Inspect buildings for code enforcement cases and evaluate structures for housing code compliance.
• Prepare and issue plan review reports in consultation with the Chief Building Official (Senior).
• Coordinate inspection activities with other departments and outside agencies.
• Provide training to lower-level inspectors (Senior) and enforce codes impartially.
