Qualifications

Lead Security Officer | FT Nights | LCMH

Department: Security

Location: Lake Charles, LA

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
  • Provides direct supervision of security officers, to include training, professional development and coaching. Directs daily security shift operations, field investigations, emergency drills, crime prevention activities, and all supporting documentation.
  • Responds to, controls and oversees calls for assistance and alarms taking action and intervening to mitigate situations, protects people and property. Patrols, assesses and secures LCMHS properties and provides escorts and education to internal customers. Enforces criminal ordinances and LCMHS policies and works with law enforcement and other community partners. Carries and uses authorized security weapons.
SUPERVISION:

Reports directly to the Security Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Supervises shift security operations
    • Directs activity of security officers.
    • Conducts daily team briefings.
    • Ensures that daily activity reports are completed and accurate.
    • Maintain daily shift activity reports.
    • Conduct field and preliminary investigations.
    • Ensures that officer incident reports are effectively written and submitted.
    • Assists with new officer and continuing training.
    • Takes action to support and implement strategic vision.
  • Responds to security emergencies.
    • Responds to calls for service, in-progress emergencies, and alarms
    • Supervises, conducts, and documents emergency and regulatory drills
    • Takes action and intervenes per procedure and protocols to mitigate the situations and to reduce injury, prevent property damage or loss
    • Engages in dynamic, potentially violent encounters, uses empty-hand control techniques, handcuffs and authorized security weapons according to policy
    • Investigates and reports incidents, and prepares written reports
    • Responds to behavioral health emergencies, de-escalates, and executes hands on physical interventions under clinical direction
  • Patrols, and conducts surveillance of LCMHS facilities and properties.
    • Identifies, assesses and addresses threats and risks to ensure the safety and security of people and property.
    • Conducts formal risk and threat assessments
    • Conducts patrols to protect people and property.
    • Provides security escorts for patients, visitors and employees at LCMHS facilities and campuses.
    • Controls access to LCMHS facilities and properties.
    • Monitors critical building security systems such as cameras, alarms and access control systems.
    • Supervises the maintenance, proper operation, and integrity of equipment including radio, weapons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, emergency vehicles and personal equipment.
  • Enforces criminal ordinances and LCMHS health system policies.
    • Detects and interdicts criminal activity.
    • Detains or arrests offenders per policy.
    • Partners with law enforcement.
    • Enforces and issues citations for violations of administrative policies such as smoking, visiting, parking and regulations related to safety and security.
  • Serves as a department liaison to internal partners, community partners and other customers.
    • Serves as the primary on-site security leader after-hours in lieu of the security manager or director.
    • Partners with the house supervisor to support hospital and organizational needs.
    • Partners with internal customers to identify risk and safety concerns.
    • Provides security, personal safety, workplace violence prevention, and other education to internal customers to support personal safety in and out of the workplace.
    • Provides assistance to patients, visitors and other customers.
    • Participates in organizational regulatory and security committees.
    • Other duties as assigned; may be assigned to work varied hours and locations to meet LCMHS needs.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of security related experience with demonstrated leadership abilities Previous security, law enforcement or military experience, three years security related or equivalent experience preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Proficiency in the use of computers is required
  • Ability to qualify and maintain proficiency with security tools, equipment and weapons.

  • Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time
  • Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations
