Job summary

Loudoun County Public Schools seeks a Lead School Security Officer for Park View High School - Sterling, VA. This role partners with the Safety and Security Coordinator and the school Principal to ensure student safety and enforce conduct policies on campus.

The Lead SSO coordinates SSO activities, communicates with staff, students, and the community, and helps audit local security procedures including the emergency plan. Requires related field degree and driving license.

Qualifications

• Two years of responsible work experience involving monitoring and enforcing appropriate modes of conduct.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding student safety and conduct.
• Ability to relate to, communicate with, and supervise young adults to establish relationships with parents and the public.
• Ability to supervise and assist in implementing intervention programs for students displaying socially unacceptable behavior.

Responsibilities

• Acts as the primary Safety and Security point of contact within the school.
• Primary liaison between the school administration and first responders.

• Provides student safety and supervisory assistance on school premises.
• Oversees parking and bus regulations and reports accidents on school property.
• Assists with developing security procedures and the emergency response plan.
• Maintains positive school-community relations and helps promote a safe environment.
• Represents the school with law enforcement and fire safety officials; may appear in court.
• Coordinates the student Crime Solvers program.

Job Overview

The Lead School Security Officer works directly with the Safety and Security Coordinator and the local school Principal to provide student safety and supervisory assistance on school premises and to enforce school regulations regarding conduct. An employee in this position will respond to complaints of losses of personal and school property, develop procedures to deter trespassers from school property, and assist in the establishment and formal audit of local security and safety procedures, including the emergency response plan. The Lead School Security Officer relates well and communicates with students, school staff, and the school community. In locations with multiple School Security Officers the Lead School Security Officer is responsible for coordinating the SSO activities and reports at their school.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Serves as liaison between Loudoun County law enforcement and fire safety officials and school administrators. Represents the school in court, as needed.
• Coordinates the student Crime Solvers program.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement or related field

Experience

Two years of responsible work experience involving monitoring and enforcing appropriate modes of conduct

Licenses and Certifications

Valid driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding student safety and conduct and the ability to enforce those regulations
• Ability to relate to, communicate with, and supervise young adults in order to help establish and maintain effective relationships with parents and the public
• Ability to supervise and assist in implementing intervention programs for students displaying socially unacceptable behavior
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, and to prepare clear and comprehensive oral and written reports
• Sufficient mobility to patrol school hallways and grounds and to monitor student behavior, deter inappropriate behavior, and apprehend students
• Sufficient vision to observe students and trespassers up to 100 yards away
