Job summary

MNL is seeking a Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2) to serve as Incident Commander and Burn Boss on prescribed fire operations in Minnesota. You will lead crews through planning, execution, and post-burn tasks, ensuring safety and compliance with plans and NWCG standards.

The role involves project planning, mentorship, and continuous improvement of MNL’s prescribed fire program, with on-call shifts, travel, and extended work during peak burn seasons.

Qualifications

• Current NWCG RXB2 qualification with Position Task Book.
• Minimum five years of wildland and prescribed fire experience.
• Ability to lead crews and make operational decisions in dynamic environments.
• Ability to travel for prescribed fire projects with limited notice.
• Valid driver's license and DOT Medical Certificate or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work in outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Incident Commander and Burn Boss on prescribed fire operations.
• Direct and coordinate assigned personnel and resources throughout operations.
• Conduct pre-burn briefings, risk assessments, and Go/No-Go evaluations while monitoring weather and fire conditions.
• Ensure prescribed fire objectives are achieved while protecting personnel, property, and resources.
• Develop, review, and implement prescribed burn plans and coordinate with clients and agencies.
• Complete burn records and post-burn evaluations accurately and on time.
• Mentor employees pursuing NWCG qualifications and support future fire leaders.
• Support pre-season planning, equipment maintenance, and readiness.
