Role Description

The Lead Robotics Software Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robotics software systems that integrate edge AI capabilities into autonomous platforms. Day-to-day work includes developing core software components, building APIs and back-end services for robotic systems, and writing clean, well-tested code for deployment in contested environments.

The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams on system architecture, mission engineering, and hardware integration, while leading code reviews, mentoring engineers, and establishing best practices. The role also involves troubleshooting complex system issues, optimizing performance, and contributing to technical documentation and project planning.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, with experience designing and building production-grade systems.
• Proficiency in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), including experience with at least one modern language commonly used in robotics (e.g., C++, Python).
• Experience with Back-End Web Development for robotics or distributed systems, including APIs, data pipelines, and microservices.
• Background in robotics software (e.g., ROS/ROS2, sensor integration, perception, planning, and control) and real-time or embedded systems.
• Experience leading engineering projects, mentoring team members, and setting technical direction for complex systems.
• Familiarity with edge AI deployment, Linux environments, CI/CD workflows, and version control (e.g., Git).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work on-site in the San Francisco Bay Area and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including mission and hardware engineers.
