Job summary

Duke University Health System is seeking a registered nurse to provide and supervise professional nursing care in accordance with physician orders and policies. You will document care, use nursing judgment to tailor plans, and serve as team leader for a group of patients or a unit.

Responsibilities include supervising care delivery, maintaining a safe environment, participating in performance improvement, and mentoring staff and learners.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina; BLS required.
• Minimum of twelve months of appropriate clinical experience.
• Graduation from an accredited BSN program.
• Knowledge of the scope of nursing roles and nursing process.
• Ability to assess nursing needs and work collaboratively.
• Ability to teach patients and families and document plans.
• Ability to record activities and navigate the electronic health record.
• Physical ability to stand/walk for extended periods; maintain focus.
• Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care per physician orders and policies.
• Use nursing judgment to tailor care plans based on patient assessment.
• Delegate tasks and supervise other staff.
• Act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit.
• Monitor environment of care and initiate corrective actions.
• Participate in professional development and competencies.
• Act as preceptor and support staff and learners.
• Identify performance improvement opportunities and participate in improvements.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
