Job summary

Honeywell Aerospace-EDS seeks a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the design of complex RF/high-speed PCB layouts and electronic packaging. You will lead the design process, generate drawings, and ensure manufacturability, reliability, and quality in a hybrid San Diego setting.

You will work with ECAD/MCAD tools (Xpedition/Altium/PADS; AutoCAD NX/SolidWorks) and mentor teams while applying GD&T, IPC 2220 standards, and DFM principles to deliver advanced electronic solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as sciences/engineering.
  • 8+ years of related experience designing high-frequency products with multilayer SMT and MIC approaches.
  • Electrical/Electronics Engineering degree or equivalent with schematic/layout experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electronics packaging and MIC design/packaging.
  • Understanding of metal fabrication, electronics assembly, and manufacturing flow.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and Y14.100 drawing standards.
  • Expertise in GD&T and dimensional tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of IPC 2220 standards for CCA/PCB design.
  • Ability to review inputs/drawings for inconsistencies and correct as needed.
  • Able to work in an integrated design team and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong presentation and cross-organizational communication skills.
  • Proficient with ECAD tools (Xpedition/Altium/PADS) and common MS Office + ERP/PLM systems.
  • Ability to perform design validation/testing for circuit functionality.
  • Capability to optimize PCB layouts for performance and manufacturability.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and trends.
  • Ability to conduct design reviews and present designs clearly.
  • Understanding of DFM principles and translating 2D/3D data into circuit elements.

Responsibilities

  • Generate circuit layouts and drawings from schematics and block diagrams.
  • Incorporate ECAD changes using Xpedition/Altium/PADS for PCB design; 2D AutoCAD for layout; MCAD in NX/SolidWorks.
  • Select components, PCB materials, tooling, and metals in collaboration with engineering.
  • Create parts lists and input data into PLM systems (Agile, Teamcenter).
  • Coordinate with Engineering on mechanical assembly approaches for manufacturing.
  • Support RF/DC calculations: impedance, temperature rise, voltage drop.
  • Comply with safety policies and Lean/Six Sigma practices.
  • Participate in cross-functional problem solving and team meetings.
  • Collaborate across departments to support design reviews and manufacturing.
  • Perform other duties to support the engineering department.
