Job summary

Stanford University Medical Center seeks a Research and Development Scientist and Engineer 2 to lead scientific work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and brain health. You will frame questions, design studies, and develop models using large curated clinical neurophysiology data and EHRs.

You will guide postdocs and students, contribute to grant proposals, and help shape the Stanford Neurology AI Center's research agenda, with a hybrid schedule on Stanford’s main campus.

Qualifications

• PhD preferred in biomedical informatics, computer science, electrical/biomedical engineering, neuroscience, statistics, epidemiology or related field.
• Master's degree with commensurate research experience will be considered.
• Five or more years of relevant research experience, including independent leadership of projects from question through publication.
• Strong record of peer-reviewed publications applying ML or advanced statistical methods to biomedical data.
• Deep expertise in ML/DL for time-series or signal data; proficiency in Python and PyTorch.
• Experience with EEG, polysomnography, or other neurophysiological data preferred.
• Experience with large-scale EHR data, causal inference, or clinical prediction model development.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and scientific direction for major projects and activities within the program.
• Frame questions, design studies, develop and validate models, and publish results.
• Guide postdocs and students, contribute to grant proposals, and shape the research agenda.
• Collaborate across clinical, engineering, and data science teams to advance translational AI.
• Lead research efforts from prototype to clinical deployment and publish findings.
• Supervise staff and resources to meet program objectives.
