Job summary

CHEP is seeking a Repair Operator Lead to join our team in a hands-on role focused on repairing containers and managing inventory for customer use. You will operate a forklift and lead a crew to maintain quality and safety while driving efficiency in the repair process.

You’ll work 1st shift, Monday–Friday, with opportunities to contribute to process improvements and training for peers. Candidates should be comfortable with physical work and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and compliance while operating tools.

  • Lead repair operators and coach peers on repair quality and scrap criteria.
  • Coordinate inventory management and support scrap/rework activities.
  • Assist in maintenance of repair standards and continuous improvement.

Job Description

As a Repair Operator Lead, you are a critical function of our pooling operation . You will repair damaged containers to be put back into inventory to be utilized for our customers . Thi s role will also entail driving a forklift to act on inventory management and support our team’s operation from a repair and scrap determination standpoint. 1st shift - Monday-Friday 6 :00 AM – 2 :30 PM

Qualifications:
  • Technical and maintenance expertise of relevant tools (ex. drill, drader gun, ratchet, hammer, screwdriver)
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to direct Team members to ensure process efficiency
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures relevant to forklift operations as well as when utilizing power tools .
  • Ability to transport containers that weigh 225lbs through use of a pallet jac k
  • Demonstrated expertise in container repair processes and quality standards.
  • Ability to train, coach, and provide work direction to peers and temporary personnel.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to influence operational performance through technical expertise and quality leadership.
Duties:
  • Safety and Compliance
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while operating tools.
  • Maintain awareness of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the work area.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment daily.
  • Report any safety hazards or concerns to supervisors immediately.
  • Repairing Containers
  • Containers and lids are repaired in accordance with our quality assurance specifications and then placed back into washable inventory
  • Documentation of Processes
  • Following Scrap or Repair, the container is documented into the appropriate database
  • Quality assurance support through partnership with QA Lead
  • Assisting the QA lead to complete collection inspections through forklift support and providing guidance on repairable/scrap container s.
  • Partnership through attending Quality meetings with the compliance team when necessary
  • Inventory Management
  • Awaiting Repair and Awaiting Teardown (or Scrap) container storage daily management
  • Supporting the shipment of Scrap Loads
  • Weekly Count of Non-SKU inventory items (container feet, bolts , gaskets, plastic injection welding material, etc..)
  • Repair Process Leadership
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert for container repair standards and best practices.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to team members regarding repair quality requirements and scrap determination criteria.
  • Train and onboard new repair operators and temporary personnel on repair processes, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve repair quality, efficiency, and inventory recovery.
  • Partner with Operations and Quality teams to promote compliance with repair specifications and operational standards.
  • Assist in monitoring repair quality and escalating recurring issues to site leadership.
