Job summary

U-Haul in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Shop Manager to lead a 15+ person repair team in a busy rental equipment shop. You will manage budgets, oversee preventive maintenance across fleet segments, and supervise repairs to ensure safety standards are met.

You will drive process improvements, coordinate training, and ensure adherence to warranty procedures and company standards while maintaining high serviceability and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
• Understand the concept of productionizing and be able to implement it.
• Develop specialization of labor and use qualification matrix with shop staff.
• Be familiar with warranty procedures and guidelines and be goal oriented.
• Follow repair campaigns and special programs exactly; maintain quotas and/or goals.
• Ensure that equipment repair is within published repair limits or obtain authorizations for repairs beyond limits.
• Ensure that all equipment is repaired with economy and effectiveness and in accordance with monthly budgets.
• Must perform safety certifications to ensure quality of work completed.

Responsibilities

• Engage in the operation of a rental equipment repair shop, with 15+ repair shop personnel.
• Be on budget through compliance with the operating standards within each Key Result Area (KRA).
• Direct shop personnel in preventive maintenance on rotation trucks and standard PM services on rotation and one-way fleets.
• Direct repair of trailer and rental items and manage sublet vendors for specialized work.
• Direct parts-inventory management, including minimums and maximums.
• Maintain ongoing education training through JET and other U-Haul training programs.
• Perform truck and trailer repairs including engine, transmission, drive train and body work; supervise sublet vendors.
• Ensure equipment passes Safety Certification Inspection before release to rental service.
