Job summary

Kapta Space in Seattle, WA is seeking a Lead Radiation Effects Engineer to lead radiation analysis across avionics and payload electronics. You will define the radiation environment, model system response, plan test campaigns, and support design decisions to ensure on-orbit reliability and performance.

The role requires independent, self-motivated engineering, strong communication across disciplines, and the ability to drive radiation strategies and budgets. Domestic travel required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in radiation-effects engineering for high-reliability electronics.
  • Hands-on experience planning and executing radiation test campaigns.
  • Experience developing analysis tools, automation, and internal data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the radiation assurance strategy and framework.
  • Build radiation budgets, analyze mission environments, and assess system reliability.
  • Plan and execute SEE, TID, and DD test campaigns at component and assembly levels.
  • Analyze test results, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend mitigations.
  • Create internal tools/workflows for radiation analysis and qualification.
  • Monitor PCNs and assess impact on radiation performance.
  • Support reliability analysis and on-orbit anomaly investigations.
  • Drive improvements to radiation modeling standards.
