Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of the Inspection Department.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Quality Control Technicians.
  • Manage inspection priorities and workflow for timely processing.
  • Perform inspections on medical device products and components.
  • Review inspection documentation prior to product release.
  • Verify lot traceability, labeling, and supporting docs.
  • Inspect raw materials and finished goods including sterile products.
  • Utilize hand tools to verify conformance and review specs.

Job description

A medical device client of ours is seeking an experienced Lead Quality Inspector to oversee the day-to-day flow of the inspection function while serving as a mentor and technical resource to the Quality Inspection team. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring incoming materials, in-process products, and finished goods meet quality requirements before release.

The ideal candidate brings strong inspection experience within a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably medical devices, along with a coaching mindset and the ability to prioritize work, delegate responsibilities, and support continuous improvement within the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the Inspection Department.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to a team of Quality Control Technicians.
  • Manage inspection priorities and workflow to ensure timely processing of incoming materials and finished products.
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections on medical device products and components.
  • Conduct final quality reviews of inspection documentation prior to product release.
  • Verify lot traceability, product identification, labeling, and supporting documentation.
  • Inspect raw materials including pouches, cartons, implant components, and other product materials.
  • Inspect finished goods, including sterile packaged products and instrument tray assemblies.
  • Utilize hand measurement tools such as calipers and other inspection equipment to verify product conformance.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection checklists.
  • Apply Acceptance Quality Limit (AQL) standards and accurately identify major and minor defects.
  • Ensure all inspection records are complete, accurate, and compliant with quality system requirements.
Qualifications
Required
  • Education: Associate degree in a technical, manufacturing, engineering, or related field or Quality inspection certification (ASQ, CQI, CQT, or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience performing incoming, in-process, and final product inspections.
  • Proficiency using inspection tools such as calipers and other measuring devices.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection criteria.
  • Working knowledge of AQL methodologies, defect classification, and sampling plans.
  • Experience reviewing quality documentation and ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize workloads, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple inspection activities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with a collaborative, coaching-oriented approach.
