The Lead Quality Engineer – Technology & Transformation is responsible for defining, deploying, and continuously improving end-to-end quality engineering solutions across the manufacturing value stream—from incoming raw materials through production and final product performance at the customer.

This role ensures robust, scalable quality verification and process control methods are embedded directly within manufacturing operations, leveraging in-line inspection technologies, material science understanding, and process capability engineering to drive consistency, traceability, and compliance.

A key focus of the role is to establish connected visibility of product quality throughout its lifecycle, linking material characteristics, process conditions, and finished good performance into a cohesive view that enables proactive decision-making, defect prevention, and continuous improvement.

Operating within the Quality COE, this leader combines hands‑on technical expertise with enterprise‑level influence, partnering across Quality, Operations, and Engineering to standardize best practices, deploy next‑generation quality technologies, and elevate overall manufacturing performance.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Engineering Leadership & Transformation

  • Lead the practical evolution of quality engineering across manufacturing, focused on defect prevention and process capability
  • Translate enterprise quality priorities into implementable, line‑level engineering solutions
  • Deliver measurable improvements in scrap, rework, yield, and customer complaints

End-to-End Quality System Design (Process‑Focused)

  • Design and implement integrated quality control methods spanning:
    • Incoming materials
    • Production and converting
    • Finishing, warehouse, and release
  • Ensure alignment between material properties, process conditions, and final product performance
  • Drive standardization of core quality practices across sites while enabling execution flexibility

In‑Line Inspection & Process Control Technologies

  • Lead deployment of process‑integrated quality technologies, examples of which are:
    • Automated gauging and thickness control
    • Vision systems for defect detection
    • Real‑time inspection and feedback loops
  • Enable closed‑loop process control and real‑time quality visibility
  • Partner with engineering to embed quality within equipment design and operation

Incoming Material & Process Quality Assurance

  • Establish robust systems for:
    • Raw material validation (e.g., resin properties, contamination detection)
    • Material handling integrity, dosing accuracy, and traceability
  • Ensure strong linkage between incoming material consistency and downstream process capability

Advanced Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead deep root cause analysis on chronic quality losses and customer escapes
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to improve process stability and capability
  • Shift organization toward preventive, data‑informed quality engineering practices

Capital & Technology Implementation (Engineering‑Led)

  • Identify, justify, and deploy targeted investments in quality‑related equipment and tooling, including:
    • Inspection and measurement technologies
    • Process control enhancements
  • Build business cases tied to process gaps, variability, and cost of poor quality
  • Ensure solutions are practical, sustainable, and fully adopted in operations

Cross‑Functional Leadership & Capability Building

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Plant Quality teams to scale solutions across sites
  • Develop organizational capability in:
    • In‑line quality engineering
    • Process control and capability improvement
  • Establish and advance a connected view of product quality across its lifecycle, enabling traceability from raw material through manufacturing to finished product performance at the customer
  • Mentor teams to build ownership, standardization, and continuous improvement culture
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or related)
  • 8–12+ years of experience in manufacturing quality and process engineering
  • Strong experience in:
    • Process capability and control
    • In‑line inspection and measurement systems
    • Root cause analysis and structured problem solving
  • Hands‑on experience in plastics, paper, or converting environments preferred
Preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (or equivalent)
  • Experience implementing inspection or process control technologies at scale
  • Familiarity with digital tools and dashboards (as a user, not system owner)
Leadership & Competencies
  • Strong manufacturing and process‑oriented systems thinker
  • Ability to translate quality requirements into practical engineering solutions
  • Data‑driven with strong operational focus and bias for action
  • Effective influencer across plant and corporate functions
  • Passion for standardization, scalability, and continuous improvement
