Job description

Job Summary

Hupp Electric Motors is seeking an experienced and dependable Lead Pump Technician to oversee the inspection, disassembly, repair, and rebuilding of centrifugal and industrial pumps. This role is responsible for ensuring repairs are completed according to original manufacturer specifications, industry best practices, and company quality standards.

The Lead Pump Technician will serve as the technical leader within the pump repair department, providing guidance to technicians, assisting with troubleshooting complex repairs, and ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot centrifugal and industrial pumps for wear, leaks, vibration issues, and mechanical failures
  • Disassemble pumps and evaluate key components including impellers, shafts, bearings, wear rings, and mechanical seals
  • Perform repairs or replacements of mechanical components using precision measurement tools and shop equipment
  • Reassemble pumps to proper tolerances, ensuring correct fits, alignment, and performance standards
  • Lead and support pump repair technicians by providing technical guidance, training, and quality oversight
  • Coordinate pump repairs with motor repair staff when working with combined pump/motor assemblies
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company safety procedures and industry standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, measurements, parts used, and repair procedures
  • Assist with job planning, estimating repair scope, and identifying replacement parts
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality control before equipment is returned to the customer
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to repair processes, efficiency, and shop workflow
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial pump repair, rotating equipment repair, or a related mechanical field
  • Strong working knowledge of centrifugal pumps, mechanical seals, bearings, and shaft assemblies
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals
  • Proficiency using precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators
  • Experience with alignment tools, hydraulic presses, and general shop equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead by example and assist in training or mentoring technicians
  • Welding, machining, or pipe fitting experience is considered a plus
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds with assistance when necessary
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work in an industrial shop environment for extended periods
  • Comfortable working with mechanical equipment, hand tools, and shop machinery
