Job summary

The Allen Institute accelerates science for a healthier world through open research and large‑scale projects. We seek a Scientist III to lead the Proteome Editor Design/AI BioDesign flywheel, guiding a team across cell biology, ML, and data curation to build model‑ready datasets and rapid iteration cycles.

Ideal candidates have deep experience in cell‑based screening, functional genomics, and cross‑functional leadership, plus strong communication for internal and external dissemination.

Qualifications

  • PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of post‑doctoral experience in relevant areas.
  • Experience with functional genomics and high‑throughput assays.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional scientific projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Proteome Editor team to build and run a rapid design–test–learn pipeline focused on proteome editor screening.
  • Design and oversee library screening and degrader evaluation experiments to generate model‑ready datasets.
  • Partner with machine learning colleagues to define targets, curate data, and implement active‑learning strategies.
  • Improve turnaround time, throughput, cost, and per‑cycle model lift; remove bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate with flywheel leads and AI Biodesign stakeholders to align priorities, timelines, and dependencies.
  • Mentor and manage a high‑performing team with a collaborative culture and strong communication.
  • Present scientific results and concepts in talks, progress reports, and publications.
