Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Lead Production Technician to guide a fast-paced team building high-temperature superconducting magnets and assemblies for fusion devices. The role emphasizes continuous improvement, schedule management, and quality adherence across mechanical, electrical, cryogenic, and vacuum systems.

The second shift runs Monday–Friday, 2:00–10:30 pm with a 10% differential, and the team operates in a hands-on, collaborative environment focused on safety and precision.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years in formal leadership in manufacturing.
  • 6 years in mechanical/electrical assembly, vacuum, cryogenic systems, etc.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Strong accountability for self and team.
  • Ability to lead and give clear direction.
  • Ability to take directions and work independently.
  • Willingness to work nights/weekends/on-call occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, lead, and train technicians and welders to build electromechanical parts with focus on quality, cost, delivery.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers/technicians to develop and qualify new techniques.
  • Assemble hardware per procedures, specs, and test instructions; align with schedules.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing discrepancies and drive continuous improvement.
  • Use torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness in work areas.
  • Provide feedback during biannual performance reviews.
  • Handle other duties as assigned by management.

Join the power movement as a Lead Production Technician

The Lead Production Technician at Commonwealth Fusion Systems is responsible for leading a fast-paced and agile team building the world’s strongest high temperature superconducting magnets and assemblies for integration into CFS fusion devices. The role is responsible for continuously improving production tasks, maintaining schedules with resourcing, and assuring quality requirements are met per documentation. The technician team is a hands-on build team working with mechanical, electrical, magnetic, cryogenic, pressure, vacuum, and pneumatic systems.

Second shift (Monday-Friday, 2:00 - 10:30 pm)

Hourly pay + 10% Differential

What you'll do
  • Hire, lead, and support training of a team of technicians and welders to build electromechanical parts and assemblies with a focus on quality, cost, and delivery
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team of manufacturing engineers and technicians to develop and qualify new manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Perform production hardware builds according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions based on scheduling
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Use various mechanical and precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers and a variety of hand and power tools
  • Ensure all technicians are adhering to safety and work area cleanliness standards
  • Be an active stakeholder for feedback to supervisor during biannual performance reviews
  • Perform other related job duties related to the job, as assigned by management
What we’re looking for
  • High school diploma/equivalency certificate or higher
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a formal leadership role in a manufacturing setting
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a variety of technical skills such as, but not limited, to mechanical and electrical assembly, plumbing, vacuum systems, epoxy potting, injection molding, cryogenic systems, soldering, and wiring
  • Commitment to safety and quality with the ability to communicate this to your team
  • Strong level of accountability for yourself and your team
  • Ability to lead a team and give clear and precise direction
  • Ability to take directions from supervisors and work independently
  • Desire to work and contribute in a fast-paced, environment with daily changes
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) to your team, including daily and weekly goals
  • Meticulous attention to detail and cleanliness with hands-on work
  • Ability and patience to work through projects from start to finish, including assembly and testing
Bonus points for
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma principles
  • Experience with winding equipment of any type is a plus
Must-have Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Perform activities such as stooping, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
