Job summary

Seattle City Light is seeking a Principal Accountant for the General Accounting Unit to lead monthly and annual close, supervise revenue accounting, and prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP and GASB. The role requires CPA and extensive knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB, with strong Excel and ERP experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and CPA certification plus four years of accounting experience.
• Experience with GAAP, GASB, and FASB; ability to prepare complex financial statements.
• Proven leadership, communication, and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate monthly and annual financial close across accounting units.
• Supervise retail revenue accounting and ensure accurate billing and reporting.
• Prepare complete and accurate monthly financial statements.
• Coordinate monthly variance analysis with explanations for key drivers and trends.
• Coordinate the annual audit including preparing audit schedules and liaising with external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with financial controls.
• Plan and lead preparation of annual financial statements in GAAP/GASB compliance.
• Plan and supervise research of accounting standards and financial impact of changes.
• Develop, recommend and implement accounting standards, policies and procedures.
• Prepare and review key account reconciliations.
• Maintain FERC accounts within ERP.
• Maintain system financial statements using ERP.
• Identify and implement process improvements.
