Job summary

SATO America LLC is seeking a detail-oriented Lead Press Operator in Romeoville, IL. The role supports the supervisor, approves tools, and drives shift productivity and quality standards.

The candidate will set up Laser and EAS equipment, troubleshoot issues, and maintain machine productivity while following safety guidelines and reporting malfunctions promptly.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from two year college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions and ruler is a must.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English to communicate effectively with co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Laser and EAS equipment (with training).
  • Troubleshoot jobs as needed.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards on conversion machines.
  • Follow copy card specifications and change plates, cylinders, and dies.
  • Meet goals for scrap, productivity and make ready.

SUMMARY:

Performs all duties and responsibilities of level 2 press operator. Routinely assists supervisor as needed and takes a lead position in the absence of direct supervision. Approves tools for operators, helps maintain overall shift productivity and quality standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ability to set up and operate Laser and EAS equipment (with training)
  • Ability to trouble shoot jobs as needed
  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the set up and operation of the conversion machines
  • Work from copy card specifications, change plates, cylinders and dies
  • Strive to meet established goals for scrap, productivity and make ready
  • Maintain a high level of product quality within established standards
  • Operate machines in a safe, efficient manner in accordance with established rules and regulations
  • Maintain machines by performing basic maintenance including lubricants, replace minor parts, and requests major maintenance when necessary
  • Maintain other production equipment and work area
  • Report machine and equipment malfunctions immediately to maintenance employee and/or supervisor
  • Accurately complete all paperwork required on a daily basis in a quality manner
  • May perform any or all of the following processes: mechanical numbering, Ion dep, hot melt
  • Report any unsafe condition(s), injury or accident immediately to immediate supervisor or other member of management
  • Willingness to cross-train on other equipment for flexibility to meet production needs
  • Maintain a positive attitude with a good company record and demonstrated initiative. Must demonstrate a willingness to assist and cooperate with other operators and employees as the situation merits.
  • Ability to coordinate assignments of packers and temporary employees with supervisor.
  • Ability to approve work and make production related decisions in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Possess strong working knowledge of all presses and equipment.
  • Ability to open and close the building as needed and preparing any equipment in advance of production start-up.
  • Performs all other tasks assigned by the supervisor, as needed.

SATO contributes approximately 75% to the cost of employees’ health insurance coverage along with 100% company paid Life & AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and a pre-tax Health Savings Account with an employer contribution of $500.00 or $1,000.00 depending on elected medical coverage.

Time Away:

We observe 10 company-paid holidays per year and up to ten (10) days accrued vacation time in the first year. Eleven (11) days at year two (2). Twelve (12) days at year three (3). Thirteen (13) days at year four (4) and fifteen (15) days at year five (5). We also offer six (6) accrued personal days for you to use for things like weddings, moving, mental health, religious holiday, sick child or for anything that is truly personal.

Saving for the Future:

plan for your short-term and long-term goals with our 401(k)-retirement savings plan with employer match with no vesting schedule. You are fully vested on the first of the month following 30 days of employment. SATO will match 100%/dollar-for-dollar of your 401(k)-deferral amount of the first 3% of your pay and an additional match of 50%/$.50 on the next 2% of your pay. For example, if you defer 5% of your pay into the 401(k) Plan, SATO will make a 4% matching contribution.
