Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Project Field Engineer to lead field engineering on LNG plant projects along the US Gulf Coast. You will manage a team, oversee work planning, material management, quantity validation, safety, quality, and system turnover, coordinating with design and startup teams.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree and 10–13 years of experience, with strong knowledge of preservation, drawings, vendor documents and project controls.

Project Overview:

The selected candidate will initially be placed on one of our four Liquefied Natural Gas Plant Projects in the US Gulf Coast Region for our Energy Global Business Unit, but we may also require the selected candidate to have future mobility to one of our other Global Business Units in a different location. The ideal candidate will have market sector/ sub sector construction industry experience in energy (liquefied natural gas), manufacturing and technology (semiconductor, chemical, pharmaceutical, data centers, fire power generation), infrastructure (aviation, rail, roads/bridges), mining and minerals (water treatment plant, mineral extraction, metal refining), & nuclear, security, and environmental (nuclear power epc, power distribution, combined cycle, defense and space, environmental cleanup). As needs arise in our growing business, there will be expectation for the candidate to be fully mobile.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. Your oversight will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-BH1

Major Responsibilities:

• On a medium to large (PFE Tier I - <$250m) job, performs the duties of a lead engineer in either an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or as a Project Field Engineer, coordinating all activities related to the operation of assigned operating section.
• Proactively engages with their teams' development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback
• Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline.
• Coordinates with design on constructability issues.
• Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
• Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
• Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
• Possesses responsibility for coordinating between Construction and Startup to ensure the various system walkdowns are performed, interfacing with the Startup Specialist as required to support component/system turnover and assuming responsibility (as required) for area turnover coordination as determined by the PFE.
• Reviews and approves inspection test plans,
• Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Advanced knowledge of equipment preservation, preventive maintenance, material storage, and environmental protection requirements for construction projects.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, vendor documents, engineering standards, and applicable industry codes.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate field engineering activities across multiple disciplines, contractors, and project stakeholders.
• Experience planning, tracking, and reporting preservation activities, including use of databases, turnover systems, and construction automation tools.
• Skilled in identifying and resolving technical issues related to equipment preservation, installation readiness, and system turnover.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize work, manage competing demands, and meet project schedules.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface with construction, engineering, suppliers, subcontractors, and client representatives.
• Knowledge of quality assurance requirements and inspection practices to ensure compliance with project specifications and preservation procedures.
• Commitment to environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) principles, including support of a Zero Accident Philosophy and safe work practices.
• Ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineers and field personnel while fostering a collaborative project culture.

Additional Information: Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to:extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces.Some lifting may be required.Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress).Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
