Job summary

The Ember Alliance is hiring a full-time prescribed fire leadership role in Troy, NC. You will lead a field-based module focused on thinning forests and assisting partners on prescribed fire projects, often working in challenging terrain and weather.

Travel may be required and safety is emphasized every day. Responsibilities include leading a 5-person team, coordinating with land agencies, and ensuring safe operations while training newer fire practitioners and coordinating NWCG course delivery

Qualifications

• Understanding of risk management with a strong commitment to safety.
• NWCG Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) currency (RT-130 Annual Refresher provided, as needed).
• NWCG Intermediate Faller (FAL2) chainsaw qualification, or ability to attain FAL2 within three months of hire
• Ability to complete an arduous pack test annually (carry a 45lbs backpack for 3 miles in under 45 minutes)
• Strong team leadership skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain a team culture of high performance in dynamic environments.
• Ability to work and lead independently and as a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead up to a 5-person module, and volunteers or fire personnel, in daily operations.
• Report daily to land agency representatives.
• Maintain module engaged in prescribed fire operations and related tasks.
• Lead daily briefings and After Action Reviews.
• Support logistical needs of the module, including managing and maintaining supplies, equipment, vehicles, and other needs.
