Job summary

Walmart is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead scalable platform capabilities across infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. You will drive the full SDLC, apply cloud-native architecture, and mentor teams to achieve reliability and innovation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or related field.
• 6 years’ software engineering experience acceptable in lieu of degree.
• Strong knowledge of Java, OO design, data structures, algorithms and concurrency.
• Experience building cloud-native, RESTful microservices and platforms.
• Experience with Kafka messaging and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and observability tooling.
• Hands-on AI engineering exposure (LLMs, embeddings, vector DBs, RAG) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices.
• Contribute to platform engineering initiatives and internal developer tools.
• Translate requirements into reliable software solutions.
• Build and support event-driven systems using Kafka or similar.
• Design and optimize relational and NoSQL data stores.
• Improve reliability, performance, observability and readiness.
• Troubleshoot production issues and support releases.
• Participate in architecture, code reviews, and planning.
• Create engineering best practices and playbooks.
• Collaborate with product, eng, and cross-functional teams.
• Mentor engineers to foster technical excellence.
