Job summary

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a Cities Medical Specialist to lead clinical services for the Office of School Health and to supervise School Health Physicians. The physician will ensure mandated services, coordinate with school staff and external providers, and contribute to school health initiatives.

The role emphasizes public health leadership, clinical service delivery in schools, and collaboration across education and health departments to protect student health

Qualifications

• Valid license to practice medicine in New York State.
• Board certification or eligibility in an appropriate specialty.
• Experience in epidemiology/public health preferred.
• Ability to supervise physicians and coordinate with school staff.

Responsibilities

• Orient, train and supervise School Health Physicians in the K-8 program.
• Provide direct clinical services to an assigned panel of schools.
• Consult with school physicians, nurses and staff on health concerns.
• Support development of school health education and prevention programs.
• Participate in on-call physician rotation and emergency response.
