Job summary

PharMerica seeks a dedicated Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to join our non-retail, closed-door pharmacy team serving long-term care and senior living clients.

You will participate in orientation, supervise technicians, schedule workflows, and ensure accurate dispensing while maintaining compliance and high service standards.

Qualifications

• Institutional knowledge of pharmacy workflows and staff supervision.
• Understanding of drugs, terminology, and medication standards.
• Experience operating pharmacy computer systems and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Participates in orientation, training, competency assessment, and evaluation of Pharmacy Technicians
• Monitors work flow and reassigns Pharmacy Technicians as needed
• Prepares Pharmacy Technician schedules to meet the needs of the pharmacy
• Fills prescription items and packages medications for dispensing and delivery
• Prepares medications including emulsions, liquids, powders and ointments; non-sterile compounding
• May supervise narcotics room, automated packing, inventory, data entry, IV preparation
• Communicates with internal and external customers
• Ensures adherence to regulations and company policies
• Performs other tasks as assigned

Responsibilities

• Participates in orientation, training, competency assessment, and evaluation of Pharmacy Technicians
• Monitors work flow and reassigns Pharmacy Technicians as needed
• Prepares Pharmacy Technician schedules to meet the needs of the pharmacy
• Fills prescription items, as permitted by the State Board of Pharmacy, packaging medications for dispensing and for delivery, meeting the accuracy and productivity standards of the pharmacy
• Prepares medications including emulsions, liquids, powders and ointments, which may include non-sterile compounding
• May perform the following:
  • Works in the Controlled Drugs (Narcotics) Room
  • Works with automated machines to prepack drugs.
  • Manages inventory functions such as monitoring pharmaceutical levels and identify expired medications, managing to the pharmacy standard for Days on Hand.
  • Inputs patient data and medication orders into a computer system to produce labels (data entry).
  • Mixes/packages IV medications, sanitizes IV room, equipment and hood.
  • Services facility-based medication dispensing machines (e.g., RxNow).
• Communicates with internal and external customers in a pleasant and professional manner.
• Ensure technician adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education/Learning Experience Required: HS diploma or equivalent
• Work Experience Required: Experience in an LTC pharmacy setting
• Work Experience Desired: Prior supervisory experience
• Skills/Knowledge Required: Basic understanding of drugs, medication terminology, and metric system; ability to operate a computer.
• Skills/Knowledge Desired: Workflow management skills; scheduling skills; performance management
