Job summary

Great Plains Health is seeking a Lead Patient Access Tech to join our team in North Platte, Nebraska. This role focuses on accurate patient data entry, pre-registration and registration processes, and collaboration with case management to address insurance issues.

You will also train staff and ensure system-wide data integrity. The position requires a high school diploma and comfort with Hospital Information System and Document Imaging System modules.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze patient demographic information to determine areas needing clarification for usefulness to other users.
  • Audit documents generated via the Hospital Information System or the Document Imaging System and follow up with staff as needed.
  • Work with case management to resolve insurance coverage issues.
  • Train and orient new employees; conduct training for existing staff on new techniques or procedures as directed by Supervisor.
  • Maintain understanding of Hospital Information System and Document Imaging System modules to pre-register/register patients and update databases reflecting changes in patient status and discharge; achieve at least 96% accuracy after six months.
  • Manage downtime procedures and re-initiation of Hospital Information System and Document Imaging System.
  • Interpret insurance information and cards.
  • Participate in development, implementation and maintenance of software systems.
  • Complete patient financial screening to facilitate patient needs and financial reimbursement.
  • Participate in staff evaluations.

Essential Functions


1.Ability to analysis patient demographic information to determine areas where information provided may need clarification in order to be useful to other users.


2.Perform audits of documents generated via the Hospital Information System or the Document Imaging System, including analysis of information entered through custom questions. Follows up as necessary with other hospital staff.


3.Works with case management to resolve insurance coverage issues.


4.Trains and orients new employees, conducts training for existing staff on new techniques or procedures as directed by Supervisor.



  1. Maintains a thorough understanding of the modules in the Hospital Information System and Document Imaging System in order to pre-register and register patients and well as being able to correct or update database to reflect changes in patient status, patient transfer, newborn admissions, and discharges. After six months of employment, maintains a minimum accuracy rate of at least 96%.

  2. Ability to manage downtime procedures and re-initiation of Hospital Information System and Document Imaging System.

  3. Ability to interpret insurance information and insurance cards.

  4. Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of software systems.

  5. Ability to complete a patient financial screening, to facilitate patient’s needs, and financial reimbursement.

  6. Participates in staff evaluations.
