Job summary

Veolia in North America seeks a senior operator/maintenance lead to drive operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. You will supervise operators and O&M technicians, monitor main control systems, and ensure process control and safety standards are met.

You must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 8+ years in wastewater plant operations. A Grade IV or higher license and valid driver’s licenses are required; heavy lifting and complex equipment handling may be involved.

• Capable of acting as responsible charge of the facility and reacting to unplanned events.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the main control system and wastewater processes.
• Perform process control, preventative and corrective maintenance tasks.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff on preventive and corrective activities.
• Clean and maintain work areas and equipment as assigned, including labs and process equipment.
• Work in sanitary sewerage collection systems and operate heavy equipment as required.
• Adhere to safety regulations and assist with training of OITs and helpers.

Job description

Position Purpose:

Leads Operators and O&M Technicians in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

• Responsible for operating and monitoring main control system.
• Performs Wastewater process control and preventative maintenance/corrective maintenance functions.
• Coordinates and works with maintenance staff on preventive and corrective maintenance functions.
• Performs cleaning and general housekeeping duties in work areas including office, laboratory, cleaning of clarifiers, headworks, centrifuge, and other process equipment as assigned.
• May be required to work in sanitary sewerage collection systems including maintenance of lift stations.
• May be required to operate automotive equipment, including heavy trucks, forklifts and front-end loaders.
• Adheres to all safety regulations.
• May train or assist in the training of OITs and assigned helpers.

Education/Experience/Background:

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field/or equivalent work experience.
• 8+ years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Capable of being assigned as responsible charge of the facility with an ability to react to unplanned events.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

• Grade IV or higher Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Commercial Driver's License.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform the following: straight pulling, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending and sitting for extended periods of time. Ability to distinguish basic colors and various shades.

Pay Rate:

$37.92 per hour.
