Job summary

Luminis Health is seeking a detail-oriented medical office clerk to provide essential administrative support. You will greet patients, register them in the system, perform EPIC scanning/abstracting, and obtain records from multiple sites.

You will also coordinate referrals, verify insurance, and handle end-of-day close procedures to ensure accurate patient information and secure records. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of medical office clerical experience,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; accredited training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and register patients into the practice management system.
  • Perform EPIC scanning and abstracting duties.
  • Obtain patient records from various offices and hospitals.
  • Scan information into patient charts after records are obtained.
  • Fax pathology reports and IP notes; send records to specialists as needed.
  • Answer calls, schedule appointments, and manage messages.
  • Coordinate patient referrals and insurance verifications.
  • Handle end-of-day close duties and secure patient information.
  • Coordinate maintenance of office equipment.

Job description

Position Objective

Provides leadership to office assistants by: scheduling work; providing training to staff, including orientation of new staff, and cross training of staff; assisting leadership with feedback for staff performance evaluations; providing counseling to staff and recommending appropriate disciplinary action to leadership; and reviewing the work of staff.

Essential Job Duties

  • Greets and accurately registers patients into the practice management system.
  • Performs EPIC scanning and abstracting duties.
  • Obtains patient records from various offices and hospitals as needed.
  • Once patient records are obtained, scans information into patient charts.
  • Faxes pathology reports and Op notes to referring and primary care physicians accordingly. Faxes patient records to specialists’ offices as needed.
  • Answers and screens office calls, makes patient appointments, takes messages and redirects calls as appropriate.
  • Schedules patient appointments to other specialists. Schedules patients for outside studies for vascular and other studies as needed.
  • Communicates with insurance companies and other medical offices to obtain referrals and verifications of coverage.
  • Handles end of day/close duties (deposits, secures money, bank bags, Patient Survey IPAD, and secures patient files/information).
  • Coordinates office equipment maintenance.
Educational/Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required or documentation of graduation from an accredited training program preferred.
  • Two years of clerical experience in a medical office setting.

Physical Demands -

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
