Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead Tech, Nuclear Medicine.

Job Responsibilities:

Patient Care & Procedure Execution

  • Perform a full range of nuclear medicine procedures, including complex and high-risk cases
  • Ensure adherence to imaging protocols and patient safety standards
  • Serve as the primary resource for clinical decision-making and problem-solving
  • Support staff in managing difficult or emergent patient situations

Leadership & Staff Coordination

  • Develop and manage staff schedules, including coverage for PTO, call-outs, and vacancies
  • Coordinate daily staffing assignments and workflow to ensure optimal coverage
  • Monitor productivity and adjust staffing based on volume and acuity
  • Serve as the first point of contact for technologists regarding operational concerns
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback to staff
  • Assist management with hiring, onboarding, and staff development

Imaging & Technical Responsibilities

  • Oversee image quality and ensure consistency across all studies
  • Troubleshoot advanced technical issues and support staff with equipment use
  • Lead implementation of new imaging protocols, technologies, and best practices
  • Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of imaging equipment

Radiopharmaceutical & Radiopharmacy Oversight

  • Oversee preparation, handling, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals
  • Ensure compliance with all radiopharmacy standards and regulations
  • Monitor inventory, ordering, and proper storage of radioactive materials
  • Provide guidance and oversight for generator elution and dose preparation

Radiation Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to radiation safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Act as a departmental resource for radiation safety practices
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews (e.g., state, federal, accrediting bodies)
  • Ensure staff compliance with safety protocols and documentation requirements

Quality Control & Performance Improvement

  • Oversee QA/QC programs for imaging equipment and radiopharmaceutical processes
  • Monitor image quality, repeat rates, and compliance metrics
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and ensure regulatory readiness
  • Maintain and review required logs, reports, and documentation for accuracy and completeness

Systems & Workflow Management

  • Oversee use of HIS, RIS, and PACS systems to ensure accurate documentation and workflow efficiency
  • Monitor scheduling workflows and optimize patient throughput
  • Ensure timely completion and communication of studies
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and leadership to ensure seamless patient care
  • Communicate departmental updates, workflow changes, and expectations to staff
  • Escalate operational, clinical, or personnel issues to management as needed
  • Participate in departmental and organizational meetings

Education & Staff Development

  • Oversee training and competency validation for new hires and existing staff
  • Serve as a preceptor and educator for students and technologists
  • Promote continuing education and professional development
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or move patients and equipment (up to 150 lbs., with or without assistive devices)
  • Prolonged standing and walking
  • Exposure to radioactive materials (with appropriate safety controls)
  • Flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and on-call coverage as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree or Certificate from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • New York State Radiologic Technologist License in Nuclear Medicine.
  • ARRT in Nuclear Medicine or NMTCB Certification.
  • 5 or more years of experience is required.
  • BLS Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine technology.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $126,500 - $138,407 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
