Radiant, an El Segundo, CA–based startup, seeks a Lead Nuclear Engineer to guide the nuclear design and analysis group on core physics, shielding, I&C, and reactor operations. You will own schedules, budgets, hiring, and milestones, driving safety, reliability, portability, and performance for the Kaleidos microreactor.
You will mentor engineers, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and ensure engineering first principles guide multi‑disciplinary work.
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass‑produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail‑safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid‑deploy capability can replace similar‑sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory‑built microreactors that use existing, well‑qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
Radiant is seeking a technical and people‑oriented Lead Nuclear Engineer for our nuclear design and analysis group focused in areas such as core physics, shielding, instrumentation & controls, and reactor operations. You will lead a high‑performing team through the design, development, and test stages of the Kaleidos microreactor. You will own the schedule, budget, hiring, and execution of nuclear‑related milestones with a key focus on safety, reliability, portability, and performance. The ideal candidate is comfortable in interdisciplinary environments working cross‑functionally with engineers and leadership, is fluent in engineering first principles, has tenacious creative problem‑solving abilities and keen to get to the solution of a problem, and loves to mentor and motivate engineers to deliver their best work. You will play a critical role in driving the first portable nuclear microreactor to market.
