Job summary

TridentCare is seeking a field phlebotomist to perform patient blood collection at client facilities, primarily nursing homes, across the Overland Park area. You will follow established procedures, properly identify patients, and ensure specimens are correctly labeled and accompanied by requisitions including billing information.

The role requires a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology related to laboratory work.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and tourniquet use.
• Understanding of specimen preservation and labeling.
• Must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain time sheets accurately.
• Strong written and spoken English skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
• Familiarity with resident rights and patient care policies.

Responsibilities

• Drive to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) in personal vehicle or as directed.
• Follow phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples from patients.
• Accurately identify patients prior to drawing.
• Label specimens correctly with requisition and billing information.
• Transport specimens following PHI policies.
• Plan and organize draw schedules prioritizing patients.
• Maintain logs, time sheets, and records neatly and accurately.
• Collaborate with dispatch, payroll, lab, and courier teams.
• Keep equipment in good working order and report issues promptly.
• Respond to communications on the company device when on duty.
• Notify dispatch of availability for future assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

Job description

• Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/ Area Lead.
• Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
• Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing.
• Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport.
• Follows phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
• Plans, organizes draw schedule with attention to priority of patients.
• Completes written logs, time sheets and other required records in a neat and accurate manner.
• Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier departments.
• Maintains all equipment in good working order and reports problem immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• When on-duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly and is ready and available to work.
• Notifies dispatch of availability for future assignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Must have current clinical Licensure, if required by State.
• Must possess knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal and decontamination of the puncture site.
• Knowledge of required specimen preservation, adequate patient preparation and specimen procedures.
• Must have a current and valid Driver's License and Auto Insurance.
• Must possess access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain time sheet records.
• Must understand and be knowledgeable of the resident rights, patient care and patient right to refuse.
• Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
• Proficient in written/verbal skills in the English Language.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, public and all staff members.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to take directions and conduct self in a professional manner.
