Cox Fleet is the leading provider of on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide, offering mobile fleet service for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers. The company operates more than 50 nationwide service centers that provide accident repair, painting, refurbishment, and heavy mechanical repair. Cox Fleet supports fleets 24/7 with a call center and scheduled or unscheduled services at any time, anywhere.

Shift: Tuesday – Saturday

Position Overview

The Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. This role is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by Mobile Diesel Technician I/II, serving as the lead on job sites for customers and technicians. Successful technicians comply with all company policies and achieve high performance metrics.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs on diverse truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to verify proper functionality.
  • Identify problems, assess the accuracy and relevance of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Manage parts inventory on company‑issued service trucks and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicles, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
  • Listen to clients and customers, assess their needs, provide information, and resolve problems or satisfy expectations.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, allocating time effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using company‑issued iOS devices and the proprietary TRAIT application, including photos, parts used, and findings.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently and manage daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity, meeting or exceeding standard repair times.
  • Source parts from approved vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management via email or phone to obtain repair estimate approvals, purchase order numbers, or discuss RO notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least 5 years of related experience. Alternatively, a higher degree, certification, or 3–7 years of experience may be considered.
  • Possession of necessary hand tools for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Obtain 608/609 certification within 18 months.
  • Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
  • Current DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining, or a DOT physical if less than 4 months.
  • Minimum age 21 due to interstate operating regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license required; ability to maintain Driver Qualification File.
