Job description

About the Position:

The MEPS play a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD and military services.

Duties

1. Assist examining Medical Officer with applicant examination and identification of disqualifying enlistment/retention factors and/or determination of applicant’s fitness for military duty.
2. Perform Medical Technician duties (e.g., collect and process medical specimens, perform laboratory testing, monitor and stock medical supplies).
3. Ensure proper maintenance of medical testing/evaluative equipment.
4. Provide technical guidance to subordinates.
5. Verify applicants’ identity using biometrics (digital fingerprints and photographs).
6. Lead Medical Exam Function team.

Requirements

1. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
2. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
3. One year trial/probationary period may be required.
4. Appointment may be subject to a background investigation.
5. This position is non-sensitive and requires a security background check.
6. Subject to annual influenza vaccinations; exemptions may be granted.
7. A pre-placement medical exam is required.
8. Must pass a color perception (vision) test.
9. Must be able to demonstrate and evaluate military physical aptitude.
10. Blood testing is required annually.
11. Use of protective clothing is mandatory.
12. Occasional Saturday and shift work may be required.
13. Complete MHS GENESIS Training within 30 days of onboarding.
14. Pre-employment drug screening and ongoing testing are required.

Specialized Experience for GS-07:

One year of specialized experience at GS-06 or equivalent, including measuring vital signs, collecting specimens, sterilizing equipment, performing laboratory tests, analyzing results, and using Electronic Health Records (MHS Genesis).

Education Substitution for GS-07:

One year of graduate education in Medical Technology, Medical Assistance, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, or Paramedic fields, with transcripts required.
