Job summary

Grady Health System in Atlanta invites experienced Medical Laboratory Scientists to lead the technical operations of our subspecialty area. The Technical Specialist serves as the lead technologist, collaborates with the Section Manager, and supports workflow efficiency, staff development, and quality initiatives.

This role requires autonomy, appropriate certifications, and strong supervisory skills to guide bench work, training, and proficiency testing, while ensuring safe, accurate patient

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
• With Bachelor's Degree: at least one year of hospital clinical laboratory experience.
• Without Bachelor's Degree: five+ years of experience in the specialty area.
• Certification as MLS by ASCP or NCA required.

Responsibilities

• Monitors technical functions in area, including quality control and QA review.
• Prepares policies and procedures for subspecialty and department.
• Participates in hiring new employees by reviewing resumes and interviewing.
• Schedules departmental in-services and continuing education opportunities.
• Prioritizes workload and may bench-work as needed.
• Instructs testing personnel in procedures and evaluates staff.
• Troubleshoots instruments and initiates remedial actions.
• Monitors proficiency and competency testing.
• Serves as primary assistant to the department manager; may act as After-Hours Supervisor.
• Supports department goals and continuous quality improvement; communicates issues to management.
