Job summary

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a skilled professional to join our laboratory team as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. You will perform and evaluate highly complex laboratory testing with precision, provide technical support and staff direction, and contribute to ongoing quality improvement in patient care.

Required qualifications include a four-year track record in clinical lab medicine, a scientific degree, and MLS/AMT certification within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of progressive clinical laboratory medicine experience.
• High school education or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or equivalent education/experience.
• MLS/AMT or equivalent certification within 12 months.
• ASCP/BOC maintenance or equivalent certification ongoing.

Responsibilities

• Be accurate and efficient in performing and evaluating highly complex laboratory testing.
• Provide technical support and staff work direction for the assigned department.
• Contribute to continuous quality improvement of laboratory services and provide feedback to staff on performance.

Use comprehensive knowledge to accurately perform and evaluate highly complex laboratory testing in an efficient manner. Provide technical support and staff work direction for assigned department. Demonstrate behavioral skills that contribute to a productive work environment, teamwork, and provide excellent customer service. Support continuous quality improvement of laboratory services and provide feedback to staff on performance.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of four years of progressive, successful experience in clinical laboratory medicine in the assigned discipline required.
• High school education or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of education/experience combined (One year of education equals one year of experience) OR completion of a certified clinical program in medical laboratory science required.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills required.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and flexibility required.
• Certified medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists MLS(ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or equivalent within 12 months eligibility/graduation required. Equivalent certifications include Medical Technologist (MT (ASCP)) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist certified by the National Credentialing Agency (CLS (NCA)) prior to 2004; have previously qualified as a technologist under 42 CFR.1433 §493.1491amended 01/19/93 [58 FR 5236] on or before 2/28/92; or International certification and qualification: International Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCPi) with approval from the ASCPi required.
• Individuals who were certified beginning January 1, 2004 maintaining their certification by participation in the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Certification Maintenance Program (ASCP)CM required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters degree in biology, chemistry, or other laboratory related science is preferred.
