Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to skills and experience. The salary range listed is just one component of the total rewards/compensation package offered to candidates. Min = $33.74 Mid = $42.17 Max = $50.61

Summary

In addition to the job duties assigned the Medical Lab Scientist, the Lead is responsible for participating in the hiring, scheduling, training and collaboration of the laboratory team with other areas of the department and hospital. Promotes an environment that is open and collaborative while keeping the team focused on a common goal. The Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead provides comprehensive laboratory testing for patients. The position consists of ensuring the patient's laboratory results are accurate, timely and with quality. The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs quantitative, qualitative and subjective lab procedures by manual and automated methods for inpatient and outpatients in all disciplines of the lab i.e. Microbiology, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Hematology, Blood bank, and phlebotomy as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy.
  • Reviews and correlates results of laboratory tests to each other and with the patient's condition, recognizing abnormal results and critical/alert values.
  • Verifies accuracy of results.
  • Performs daily instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and resolving specimen integrity problems. Calibrates, maintains, operates and troubleshoots instrumentation issues and completes appropriate documentation.
  • Performs specimen collection and interpretation of patient results and quality control data.
  • Leads and participates in quality assurance, quality improvement activities, and quality control processes.
  • Accurately prepares, labels and stores reagents, standards, controls and specimens for analysis.
  • Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, residents, patients and other health care providers as applicable. In addition to the job duties of the Medical Laboratory Scientist, the Lead is responsible for participating in the hiring, scheduling, training and collaboration of the laboratory team with other areas of the department and hospital.
