Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is seeking an experienced engineer to lead mechanical system development and testing across aerospace programs in West Decatur, AL. You will guide prototype builds, verification testing, and system validation, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with design/analysis teams to mature new technologies.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and 4–7 years of hands-on experience with hardware testing, including development

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.
• 4–7 years of experience designing, assembling, and testing mechanical hardware and systems.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810.
• Ability to diagnose hardware and assembly problems and develop corrective actions.
• Familiarity with standard mechanical assembly practices and troubleshooting approaches.
• Proven experience leading product development tests (development and qualification).

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering for development and testing of aerospace/defense hardware; guide junior engineers.
• Oversee prototype builds, testing, environmental and flight testing.
• Plan and execute hardware test activities (static, shock, vibration, thermal, energetic).
• Develop hardware test plans and procedures from VCRM.
• Lead all failures in test planning, fixtures, setup, data acquisition, analysis, reporting.
• Contribute to proposals with labor and material estimates for prototypes and tests.
• Troubleshoot mechanical hardware and assembly issues (interference, misalignment, fit, tolerances).
