Job summary

Cowboy Space Corp. is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to own the structural and thermal packages for space-based compute hardware. You will guide packaging architecture, perform trade studies, and mentor a team through integration and qualification in a fast-paced space environment.

You will collaborate with electrical, thermal and spacecraft teams to ensure robust, high-performance hardware suitable for orbit, including environmental qualification and GD&T documentation.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years on flight hardware in aerospace/high-reliability programs.
  • Lead role on mechanical design of electronics enclosures or compute hardware.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD and GD&T, plus structural/thermal analysis.
  • Experience taking hardware through environmental qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical architecture from concept to production.
  • Perform system-level trade studies on packaging, mass, and thermal.
  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers and set technical direction.
  • Define interfaces and budgets for compute/power electronics.
  • Drive structural and thermal analysis with validation against requirements.
  • Develop mechanical drawings, GD&T specs, and ICDs.
  • Plan mechanical integration and testing, including qualification.
  • Represent the mechanical team in design reviews.
  • Collaborate across electrical, thermal, and spacecraft groups.
