Job description

About EVident Battery
EVident Battery, founded by Yale MBAs, Engineering PhDs, and a former Tesla engineer, is pioneering a comprehensive and non-destructive inspection solution for electric vehicle (EV) battery packs. Our proprietary system combines hardware innovation and software intelligence—including vibration analysis, robotic mobility, and machine learning—to assess EV battery health, lifespan, and value. We're on a mission to establish the industry benchmark for EV battery diagnostics and build the central data repository for EV battery health and performance.

Role Overview: Lead Hardware Engineer
EVident Battery is seeking a Lead Hardware Engineer to drive hardware development from R&D to production. This high-impact role combines hands-on technical work with team leadership and project management. You’ll oversee the full hardware lifecycle, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to deliver cutting-edge EV battery diagnostic solutions.

This high-impact role requires a deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and project management capabilities —ideal for an entrepreneurial engineer ready to lead both the vision and execution of next-gen EV battery inspection hardware.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Lead the end-to-end design, prototyping, testing, and iteration of integrated hardware systems including mechanical, electrical, and robotic components.
  • Team Management: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing hardware engineering team. Set clear goals, delegate effectively, and provide regular technical feedback.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with software and management teams to ensure hardware-generated data supports advanced analytics. Maintain clear documentation and data pipelines.
  • Product Ownership: Oversee the selection and qualification of materials and components. Manage vendor relationships, manufacturing workflows (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting), and ensure timely delivery of high-quality hardware.
  • Innovation & Analysis: Advance EV battery diagnostics through hands-on experimentation, FEA simulations, and physical testing focused on vibration and structural analysis.
  • Project Management: Own hardware development timelines and budgets. Track key milestones and align engineering efforts with company goals.
Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge in engineering mechanics, vibration analysis, structural/materials testing, and robotics systems.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent), FEA tools (Ansys, Abaqus), and Software coding (Python or equivalent) for modeling, analysis, and automation.
  • Proven ability to manage complex hardware projects from concept through deployment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to align engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and documentation practices to support reproducibility and cross-functional alignment.

Preferred Background:

  • At least 3-year full-time experience in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Experience with EV battery systems or battery diagnostics.
  • Prior experience managing and scaling engineering teams.

Education:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

Compensation
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position includes equity and cash components. Health Insurance and Dental Insurance are provided for full time employees.
