Job summary

Goodmanson Construction is seeking a Lead Mechanic with 7 to 10 years of experience to own maintenance and repair across our fleet of automobiles, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, and construction equipment. The role combines hands-on diagnostics with technical leadership in the shop and mentoring of less experienced technicians.

You will diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and diesel issues, perform preventive maintenance, and support on-site service at job sites.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of mechanic experience, including heavy equipment and fleet maintenance.
  • Extensive knowledge of air brake systems.
  • Strong diagnostic ability across mechanical, electrical, diesel and drivability issues.
  • Working knowledge of shop equipment and safe practices.
  • Able to work indoors and outdoors on active construction sites.
  • Capable of lifting 60+ pounds.
  • DOT inspector certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL Class A preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, diesel engine, and driveline issues across automobiles, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, and construction equipment.
  • Repair and maintain snow removal equipment, including truck plows, pushers, and Kage plows.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and pre-return-to-field quality inspections on all fleet and equipment.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to test vehicle and equipment components and troubleshoot root causes.
  • Complete fabrication and welding both in the shop and on-site as repairs require.
  • Operate a service truck to perform on-site repairs at job sites.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs and repair records, including outstanding repair needs.
  • Serve as a technical resource for other mechanics; participate in ongoing training, both digital and classroom-based, and help build shop capability over time.
  • Work outside normal business hours as workload and seasonal demands require (including snow events)

Position Summary

Goodmanson Construction is a growing concrete, asphalt, excavation, and site work contractor with an expanding equipment fleet. We are looking for a Lead Mechanic with 7 to 10 years of experience to take ownership of maintenance and repair across our fleet of automobiles, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, construction equipment, and snow removal equipment. This role combines hands-on diagnostic and repair work with technical leadership in the shop, including mentoring less experienced technicians and helping keep the fleet field-ready year-round.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, diesel engine, and driveline issues across automobiles, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, and construction equipment (skid loaders, excavators, pavers, wheel loaders, and small engine equipment)
  • Repair and maintain snow removal equipment, including truck plows, pushers, and Kage plows
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and pre-return-to-field quality inspections on all fleet and equipment
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to test vehicle and equipment components and troubleshoot root causes
  • Complete fabrication and welding both in the shop and on-site as repairs require

  • Working knowledge of shop equipment and safe shop practices
  • Comfortable working both indoors in a shop setting and outdoors on active construction sites
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions, work efficiently under deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attendance and punctuality; self-motivated team player
  • Able to lift 60+ pounds regularly
  • DOT inspector certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record. CDL Class A preferred, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Must supply own hand tools
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid DOT health card
