Overview

About SOLFL

SOLFL is a new movement in conscious education dedicated to cultivating intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intelligence. Our first school, SOLFL עץ חיים, a K-12 Miami Torah Earth School, offers a rigorous, multi-disciplinary curriculum that integrates hands-on, experiential learning with entrepreneurship, ecology, creative expressions and spiritual practice. Our goal is to move children away from traditional classrooms, desks and screens, into the real world. This is an irl (in real life) school aimed at cultivating the impact entrepreneurs of the future.

About the Role

The Lead Mathematics Teacher for Middle School is responsible for teaching middle school Math through Algebra 1 with strong instruction, strong classroom management, and a clear commitment to student growth. This person should be able to make Math engaging, practical, and challenging while maintaining high academic standards. This role requires many of the same qualities expected of the middle school science educator: strong classroom presence, strong project and task management, a highly systemized approach to responsibilities, and strong academic governance related to assigned classes. This person must be able to plan well, execute consistently, track student progress carefully, and maintain clear academic structures in their classrooms. This teacher should be able to bring Math to life, including teaching Math in living classrooms when appropriate, helping students see mathematical patterns and relationships in nature and the real world. This person should also incorporate strong thinking skills into the work students are asked to do, so that Math is not only about procedure, but also reasoning, problem-solving, analysis, and application. This role requires someone who prioritizes the student experience, differentiates effectively, and creates regular opportunities for all students to strengthen their skills while also being challenged to think more deeply.

Core Responsibilities
Middle School Math Teaching
  • Teach middle school Math up to and including Algebra 1
  • Deliver clear, rigorous instruction that builds both understanding and skill fluency
  • Help students develop confidence in core mathematical concepts while maintaining high expectations
  • Make Math engaging, meaningful, and accessible without lowering standards
Living Classroom and Real-World Math
  • Use living classrooms and real-world environments from time to time to help students see Math in nature and in everyday life
  • Create opportunities for students to observe patterns, structure, measurement, ratio, scale, and mathematical relationships beyond the traditional classroom
  • Help students understand that Math is not separate from the world around them
Thinking Skills and Student Experience
  • Incorporate reasoning, problem-solving, analysis, and thinking skills into the work students are assigned
  • Design learning experiences that go beyond rote procedure and help students explain, justify, and apply their thinking
  • Prioritize the student experience by making work purposeful, well-paced, and engaging
  • Create a classroom culture where students feel supported to try, think, revise, and grow
Differentiation and Student Growth
  • Differentiate instruction and assignments so that all students have opportunities to strengthen core skills and also stretch into deeper thinking
  • Use student data, observation, and class performance to adjust teaching and support individual progress
  • Ensure students at different levels are appropriately supported and challenged
Classroom Management and Academic Oversight
  • Maintain strong classroom management and clear expectations for behavior, effort, participation, and academic responsibility
  • Build and maintain systems for planning, assessment, grading, feedback, and student progress tracking
  • Carry out strong academic governance related to Math classes, including documentation, follow-through, and accountability
  • Ensure classes are organized, structured, and academically strong
Collaboration and Program Support
  • Collaborate with school leadership and colleagues to strengthen Math teaching and learning across the middle school program
  • Support integrated learning work where appropriate
  • Bring ideas, energy, and follow-through to collaborative planning and continuous improvement
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mathematics, Education, or a closely related field preferred
  • Ability to teach middle school Math through Algebra 1
  • Strong teaching experience in Math, preferably in middle school
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Strong project management, organization, and systems thinking
  • Strong academic governance and follow-through related to assigned classes
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and supporting a range of learners
  • Ability to make Math engaging, thoughtful, and connected to real life
Who This Role Is Ideal For
  • Can teach Math clearly, strongly, and with confidence
  • Believes Math should build both skill and thinking
  • Can manage a classroom with structure and consistency
  • Understands how to differentiate without lowering standards
  • Is thoughtful about student experience and committed to helping each student grow
  • Can bring creativity and real-world relevance into Math instruction
  • Thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving school environment

  • Help students build confidence, reasoning, and problem-solving skills that matter beyond the classroom
  • Use nature and the real world as part of the learning environment
