Job summary

HellermannTyton North America is seeking a Lead Material System Technician to oversee the material handling department. You will train technicians, program and operate the Novatec system, and manage raw materials, moisture testing, and documentation to uphold quality standards.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Material Systems Supervisor, the Lead Material System Technician will oversee the department and is responsible for training and assisting in the evaluation of all Material System Technicians in regards to properly mixing, grinding, and moving all raw material for the production of injection molded products. Responsibilities will also include setting up, programming, operating, and minor maintenance of the entire material handling system. Controlling and identifying all scrap material, which includes regrind for processing, recyclable scrap, and waste scrap. This will be achieved by maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality and EMS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions and required documentation.

Essential Functions

• Train all Material System Techs in their job responsibilities.
• Training for personnel that are grinding - proper grinding, ID Materials, How to read W/O, PPE
• Attend Production Scheduling meeting and prepare a schedule for Material System Techs.
• Read, follow, and verify work orders to ensure product is manufactured to specification.
• Identify raw materials and label correctly.
• Properly program, set up and operate entire material handling system (Novatec) including blenders, dryers, hoppers and grinder evacuation units.
• Troubleshoot and correct common material and material system problems.
• Change materials as required.
• Complete moisture tests daily on MAX 4000XL Moisture Analyzer and document results.
• Clean and maintain material blenders, hoppers, dryers, and grinders.
• Verify Closed loop regrind systems are in place and working.
• Report material system maintenance needs to maintenance dept including grinders, hoppers, material system, and barrel evac units.
• Complete material transactions for additions and subtractions of raw materials.
• Inventory raw materials, colorants, additives, and hotstamp foils.
• Track and report on the use of materials regrind and scrap including purgings.
• Maintain the FIFO and inventory of regrind materials.
• Assist in maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality/Environmental System certifications by supporting: corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.
• Verify daily that the Material Log sheets are completed and correct.
• Perform daily, weekly, biweekly and monthly cycle counts of raw material as needed.
• Change, clean and maintain all pump filters in material system as required.
• Unload "Bulk Material Trucks" into proper silo, following specific work instructions.

Other Functions

• Visual inspection of manufactured parts.
• Mix raw materials as needed using the correct formulas.
• Complete routine housekeeping to ensure that the material handling areas are keep clean and organized by following daily and weekly cleaning procedures.
• Attend and successfully complete forklift certification.
• Weigh and properly document all scrap materials for reuse, recycling, and waste.
• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Key Competencies

• Ability to read and follow work orders.
• Properly complete material changes according to the production schedule and work order.
• Use and complete Electronic Material Log properly.
• Ability to properly identify and label all types of raw materials (virgin, regrind, recyclable scrap and waste materials).
• Properly correct common material and material system related problems.
• Properly complete cleaning on grinders, hoppers, blenders, and press during material changes.
• Properly complete material transactions using the ERP system.
• Successfully complete forklift training and certification.
• Ability to use Microsoft Suite products.

Qualifications (skills, Knowledge, Experience)

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• 1+ year of manufacturing material handling experience (preferably in injection molding environment).
• Ability to perform basic math.
• Ability to lift, push, pull up to 75 lbs.
• Must be able to stand, walk, and work for 8-hour shifts.
• Forklift experience required.
• Familiarity with computers and have the ability to perform basic data entry.
• Ability to work overtime or weekends as needed to meet the needs of our customers
• Ability to inspect production for quality defects.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
