Lead Manufacturing Engineer based in Greater Los Angeles Area

Pay Range: $100,000-120,000

This prominent defense contractor plays a vital role in developing and manufacturing systems for military aerospace and vehicles. Located in Southern California, the organization comprises divisions focused on engineering, testing solutions, and land systems. The company is involved in designing and producing military Alternate Mission Equipment, armament test equipment, and specialized power and thermal management systems. Their work spans various programs and platforms, collaborating with major military contractors in the defense industry.

Purpose:

This position requires a strong background in aerospace manufacturing, focusing on mechanical and electro-mechanical components and assemblies. Experience with large complex metallic and electromechanical components, as well as some CNC machining, is essential.

Job Duties:

The role involves reviewing customer engineering requirements and drawings to assess manufacturability, creating manufacturing plans and bills of materials (BOMs), and working with manufacturing personnel to improve processes. You will troubleshoot assembly and machining issues, implement time-saving measures, and ensure product quality and certification standards are maintained or improved. Flexibility to work in fast-paced environments and both independently or in teams is required.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Providing technical support to troubleshoot manufacturing processes and ensure quality and profitability.
  • Optimizing manufacturing efficiency and quality through improved processes, materials, and methods.
  • Supporting production to ensure compliance with specifications and engineering documents.
  • Offering feedback to optimize product design for cost, manufacturability, and production time.
  • Preparing engineering changes to support manufacturing and quality.
  • Designing and implementing tooling to aid production processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with engineering, customer, and company specifications.
  • Conducting root cause analysis and corrective actions for parts and processes.
  • Identifying new equipment, tools, and processes to improve consistency, accuracy, and cycle times.
  • Collaborating with assemblers, supervisors, leads, and management regularly.
  • Planning and coordinating manufacturing processes using knowledge of product design, materials, and fabrication techniques.
  • Evaluating and improving existing processes with suppliers and external resources.
Job Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Experience: 7+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience, including FSDA, machining, and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of Digital Product Definition (DPD) and Model-Based Definition (MBD) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Readiness Assessment (MRA) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of blueprints, drawings, GD&T, and MIL-STD documents.
  • Proficient in process management, improvement, problem-solving, and cost reduction.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and fluent in English.
  • Knowledge of machining techniques, including NC machine programming.
  • Experience with tooling design, heat treating, coatings, and materials processing for aerospace.
  • Basic measurement and inspection skills.
  • Strong ability to create Manufacturing Planning and engineering reports.
  • CAD experience in CATIA or Creo is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products is essential.
