Job summary

Weill Cornell Medicine announces a Lead Mammography Technologist position in the WCINYP Mammography unit. The successful candidate will work under the Chief Technologist, operating mammography and stereotactic equipment, and will supervise in the Chief Technologist's absence.

Office is on the Upper East Side with a 35-hour work week and non-exempt status. A $10,000 new hire bonus is distributed in installments over hire, 6 months, and 1 year.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required and graduation from an approved radiography program.
  • ARRT(M) certification and NYS Radiographic Technology license required.
  • BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Radiologist to improve protocols and maintain scanner protocols.
  • Maintain inventory and assist with procurement of supplies/equipment; support cost control.
  • Train staff on systems/equipment and departmental policies.
  • Manage patient scheduling and assist with patient flow and transfers.
  • Perform mammography and stereotactic scans per clinical requisition and explain procedures to patients.

Salary Range: $54.18 - $65.71

Position Summary

Working in conjunction with, and under the direction of the Chief Technologist, functions in a multi-faceted leadership role as a Technical Specialist, Trainer, QA/QC, PACS Analyst and Technologist for multiple sites. Operates mammography and stereotactic biopsy equipment to assist in the safe and efficient diagnosis and assessment of patient conditions, in accordance with established procedures. This role serves as supervisor in absence of Chief Technologist.

$10,000 new hire bonus will be distributed in the following increments:

Date of hire: $2,500

6 months: $5,000

1 year: $2,500

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with Radiologist to improve protocols; maintains protocols on scanners. Works with vendors to learn new techniques and travels for application training as needed. Assists with DOH/ACR compliance and is responsible for daily quality control.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and/or equipment. May order supplies/equipment as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control.
  • Trains current and new employees on the use of systems/equipment and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Manages patient schedules, greets registered patients at time of visit and triages patients through the patient flow process. Accompanies patients to exam/procedure room. Assists patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing and preparing for exam.
  • Performs mammography and stereotactic scans of patient as requested by clinical requisition. Explains procedure to be performed to patient prior to scan and answers any questions throughout scan.
  • Reviews and verifies patient identity, history and requisition for exam to be performed. Takes appropriate scans to determine areas of possible pathology. Modifies testing parameters under the direction of radiologist to ensure accurate imaging.
  • Develops, processes, and archives images/films in accordance with established procedures. Performs exam merges in PACS for unspecified patient exams and procedures.
  • Inputs patient history information at time of exam/test into the practice management system. Scans relevant medical documentation related to patient's case.
  • Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times. Responsible for maintaining a sterile environment. Ensures standard infection control precautions are observed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
  • High School Diploma
  • Graduate of approved school of radiography
Experience

Approximately 4 years of experience working as a mammography technologist.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills required.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current, active and unrestricted New York State License in Radiographic Technology (R).
  • ARRT (M) Certification.
  • BLS Certification (issued by the American Heart Association)
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Maintains current ARRT registration and New York State licensure required for position requirements and complies with Continuing Education (CE) credits.

This role requires working on the weekends and also flexibility to work in the evenings
