Job summary

City of Austin is seeking a Maintenance Worker Leader to supervise a team performing building maintenance on City facilities and manage routine repairs. The role involves inspecting, repairing, and installing a variety of systems and structures, with emphasis on safety and quality.

The position requires experience in heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems, plus the ability to lead others and coordinate tasks across a busy venue environment at Palmer Events Center and other locations

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four years of experience in building maintenance including heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four years.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical diagrams; perform repairs and routine maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Repairs and replaces electric plugs and cords; performs minor carpentry and plumbing tasks.
  • Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders and power saws; installs or repairs walls, ceilings, doors and floors.
  • Drives vehicles as needed and moves furniture and equipment.
  • Trains and leads employees and supervises work in the absence of the supervisor.
