Job summary

Burke Porter, An Ascential Technologies Company in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Lead Machine Builder to oversee skilled fitting, assembly, and troubleshooting of custom machinery. You will direct the Machine Builder team, interpret blueprints, and ensure safety and quality standards on the shop floor.

Responsibilities include assigning work, mentoring staff, reviewing performance, coordinating schedules, and supporting overtime as production needs require.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of machine building experience, preferably with custom machinery.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Proven leadership or mentorship experience leading a team in a manufacturing setting.
• Familiarity with GD&T and shop math.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled fitting and assembly using hand tools, power tools, and machines.
• Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
• Provide hands-on guidance and troubleshoot during machine builds.
• Assign and coordinate daily work to team members to meet production schedules.
• Train and mentor new employees on machine-building processes and safety.
• Ensure safe work practices and proper crane and forklift procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
