Job summary

TEGNA's WMAZ-TV in Macon, GA seeks a News Director to lead our 24/7 streaming and broadcast operation with a focus on breaking news, severe weather, and enterprise reporting. The role requires guiding editorial priorities, coaching talent, and ensuring accuracy and impactful storytelling across platforms.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in newsroom leadership, proven multi-platform leadership, and a data-informed approach to journalism, with relocation to Central Georgia preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7+ years of newsroom leadership experience.
• Proven success leading multi-platform news operations with breaking news and special events.
• Strong editorial judgment and storytelling instincts under pressure.
• Ability to lead change, coach journalists, and deliver engaging content across platforms.
• Experience recruiting and retaining newsroom teams reflecting the community.
• Data-informed journalism using research and analytics for editorial decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead all dayparts in a 24/7 streaming-first operation.
• Coach producers to execute multi-platform programming across broadcast, digital, and social.
• Coach on-air reporters for engaging performance across platforms.
• Lead recruitment for newsroom positions with focus on talent.
• Be a key voice in editorial process and priority setting.
• Use analytics to guide editorial decisions and measure performance.
• Collaborate with content leaders to align linear, streaming, and digital platforms.
• Oversee coverage of events and community initiatives.
• Direct major breaking news coverage promptly.
• Perform tasks as needed by region VP of Content.
