Job summary

The Office of the State Auditor in Duluth, MN seeks an Auditor Staff Specialist to lead audits of local governments, ensuring reliability of financial statements and compliance with laws. You will plan, direct, and review audits, supervise staff, and work in a daylight schedule with travel up to 25% as needed.

Start date mid‑November 2026, with initial training in the Duluth office and potential client site work. Strong GAAP/GASB knowledge and federal program experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or master’s with accounting concentration.
• Minimum two years of lead worker and/or supervisory audit experience.
• Experience planning and performing audits of federal programs per Uniform Guidance.
• Experience preparing audit reports, disclosures, and management letters.
• Knowledge of GAAP/GASB for local governments and GAAS/GAGAS standards.
• Familiarity with federal awards audits and Uniform Guidance.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and reporting for external audits of local governments per standards.
• Independently complete complex audit areas, including federal programs.
• Direct and coach staff, assign audit areas and review documentation.
