Job summary

Lead, Line Maintenance Technician

Fort Lauderdale, FL (Fully onsite)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Lead, Line Maintenance Technician , whose role involves performing line maintenance, installation, repair station, and ground equipment maintenance activities on Thales In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems and other systems for which the technician is authorized and trained.

In this position, you will serve as a technical lead, supporting the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of IFE equipment and systems while helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable technical and quality requirements.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Act as Shift Lead for Technicians by directing the crew, prioritizing shift workload, resolving routine issues in accordance with established instructions, policies, training, and accepted practices, and consulting with the Team Leader on unique situations without clear precedent.
  • Train Team members, assign and review their work, and regularly perform the same maintenance activities alongside the Team.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and system modifications on all authorized systems, ensuring airline logbook discrepancies related to applicable systems are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the Team follows established procedures and that aircraft logbooks are properly utilized, completed, and signed off in a timely manner for all work performed on aircraft.
  • Document maintenance activities daily in accordance with established procedures and submit required daily reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance.
  • Provide customers with ongoing support while ensuring Company policies and procedures are consistently followed and upheld.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma required, with a minimum of two (2) years of line maintenance experience and comprehensive knowledge of avionics/electronics.
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificates or Thales Repairman Certificate required; Leads holding a Repairman Certificate must obtain an Airframe and Powerplant Certificate within one (1) year of assuming the Lead position and must meet recent experience requirements in accordance with 14 CFR 65.83.
  • Strong avionics knowledge with the ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams, follow written procedures and instructions, and terminate electrical connectors using proper crimping and soldering methods acceptable within the aviation industry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment, adapt to changing conditions and direction, analyze problems and situations of moderate scope, and clearly summarize and present information to Supervisors and Customers; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet Explorer required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally as needed, possess or be able to obtain a valid unrestricted Passport, be legally authorized to work in the country where the position is located, and possess and maintain a valid Driver License and driving record that meets Company insurance standards.
  • Must be able to obtain required airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and Customs clearance and successfully complete required background screening, fingerprinting, pre-employment drug testing, and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC); must also be able to safely work around moving vehicles and aircraft, operate aerial lift equipment, tugs, and trucks, and frequently crawl, bend, kneel, climb, and stoop in confined spaces while maintaining regular attendance, a positive attitude, and professional appearance.

Special Position Requirements
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license and previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and handle objects weighing 50–80 pounds and frequently lift and handle objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently use a variety of hand tools to test equipment.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules based on seniority and operational requirements, including day, swing, or midnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work outside on the aircraft ramp and/or in a hangar environment where loud noise may be experienced.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 10% of the time.
